History of Oktoberfest
Did you know that the original Oktoberfest occurred in Munich, Bavaria, Germany on October 18, 1810? The purpose of the first party was to commemorate the marriage between Crown Prince Ludwig (later King Ludwig I) and Princess Therese of Saxe-Hildburghausen. A huge horse race was the main event back then. Oktoberfest was later lengthened and the date pushed forward because the end of September in Bavaria often has very good weather— and the high temperatures during the first week of Oktoberfest usually make for very thirsty visitors! Today, Oktoberfest is a 16-day festival held each year running from late September through early October. It is one of the most famous events in Germany and the world's larges fair, with some 6 million attendees every year. PROST!
